We Only Work with Specialist Anaesthetists – The Safest Choice for Your Care
- Most dental clinics use dental sedationists, but we take it a step further by working exclusively with Specialist Anaesthetists.
- Our anaesthetists are medical professionals with years of specialized training in anaesthesia, ensuring a safer and more predictable procedure.
- This means fewer risks and better outcomes for you. You’ll have peace of mind knowing you’re in the hands of experts.
Medicare Covers Part of the Anaesthesia Costs
- When you choose Berwick Dental Studio for Sleep Dentistry, you’ll benefit from Medicare coverage for the fees of our Specialist Anaesthetists, which can significantly reduce out-of-pocket costs.
- Most clinics that use dental sedationists don’t have this benefit, making our approach both safer and more affordable for you.
Sleep Dentistry Done In-House – Convenient & Less Stressful
- Unlike other practices that send you to a hospital for all sleep dentistry, we do most procedures right here in our comfortable, familiar office.
- Our in-house services mean less travel, less waiting, and the reassurance of knowing that you’re close to home.
- You’ll have a relaxed, comfortable experience with a team you trust, making it easier for you to get the dental care you need without the added stress of an unfamiliar setting.
General Anaesthesia vs. Other Sedation Options: Why We Choose General Anaesthesia
- General anaesthesia offers the deepest level of sedation, allowing you to be fully asleep and completely unaware during your procedure. It’s ideal for longer or more complex treatments.
- We do have other sedation options such as nitrous oxide (happy gas), which reduce anxiety and helps you feel relaxed, without going all the way to sleep. This works great for milder dental anxieties, but general anaesthesia is the gold standard if you don’t want to see, hear or feel anything!
- General anaesthesia ensures you are fully relaxed and pain-free, giving you the most predictable and controlled experience possible.

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ
Sleep Dentistry is ideal for patients with severe dental anxiety, phobias, or those needing lengthy or complex treatments. During your consultation, we’ll assess your medical history and work with you to determine the best approach.
No! Our general anaesthesia ensures you’re completely asleep and unaware throughout the entire treatment, so you won’t feel a thing, and hours of procedures feels like an instant!
Recovery time is minimal. Most patients feel fully alert and comfortable within a few hours after waking up. You’ll need someone to drive you home, as the effects of anaesthesia will take a little time to wear off.
There are many buzz words being thrown around for sleep dentistry. It pays to know the difference!
- Conscious sedation – Green whistle/happy gas and medications – awake, but very relaxed
- Twilight sedation – Often promoted as sleep dentistry, but you still know whats going on! We do not do this, as it is not a good experience for any one.
- Deep sedation – Fully asleep, but without using some of the stronger medications needed for General Anaesthesia. This means faster recovery and less nausea after the procedure.
- General Anaesthesia – Complete loss of consciousness, breathing and heart functions need to be carefully monitored by a registered specialist. Usually done in private hospitals.
